Protection Required
All kitchen 15/20-amp outlets require GFCI protection. Combined AFCI/GFCI is required at countertop outlets.
Under-Cabinet and Island Considerations
Under-cabinet lighting typically runs on the general lighting circuit with a wall switch. Island outlets — surface, pop-up, or under-cabinet — all must be GFCI-protected.
