Six Signs You Should Replace
- Federal Pacific Stab-Lok or Zinsco panel — documented failure to trip under fault. Replace regardless of visible condition.
- Fuses instead of breakers — pre-1965 vintage, undersized for modern loads
- Warm panel cover, burning smell, or scorching around breakers — call today
- Repeated tripping on multiple circuits — the panel is at or over capacity
- Rust or corrosion inside the panel — especially common on exterior panels in coastal OC
- No room for new circuits and you're planning an EV, HVAC swap, or addition
When It's Optional
A functioning, code-compliant panel with open slots and no warning signs doesn't need replacement just because it's old. Square D QO panels from the 1980s and 90s in good condition are still excellent.
