How to Choose an Electrician

  2. 2. Red Flags

The Seven Questions

1. What's your C-10 license number? (Verify at cslb.ca.gov) 2. Are you bonded and insured? Ask for proof — a Certificate of Insurance takes 2 minutes to email. 3. Will you pull the permit? A contractor who hesitates is a red flag. 4. Do you provide a written estimate? Line-item, not lump-sum. 5. What's your warranty on labor? Standard is 1 year; we offer longer on major installs. 6. How long have you been in business? Family businesses that have been around 30+ years have institutional knowledge you can't buy. 7. Can I see recent local reviews? Google, BBB, and Nextdoor are hard to fake.

Red Flags

  • Cash-only pricing
  • Refuses to pull permits
  • No physical business address
  • License number that doesn't match on cslb.ca.gov
  • 'Discount' that requires a decision on the spot
