Required Circuits and Outlets
- At least one 20-amp dedicated receptacle circuit for the garage
- One outlet per parked-vehicle space and one on each usable wall
- All garage outlets GFCI-protected
- Ceiling outlet permitted for garage door opener (not required to be GFCI in some cases)
EV-Ready Requirements
New construction in California requires EV-ready wiring — conduit and capacity provisioned for a future Level 2 charger. For existing homes, adding EV-ready wiring during a garage remodel is straightforward and inexpensive relative to retrofitting later.
